The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule-2nd Edition (ADOS-2)
The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule-2nd Edition (ADOS-2) is an engaging, interactive assessment that evaluates for the core symptoms of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). There are several semi-structure activities that the child can participate in during the observation depending upon the child's age and language abilities, including make believe play activities, talking about pictures, and answering questions about emotions and relationships. For younger children, the examiner may ask the parent to interact with their child in the room for the examiner to observe. It is important to keep in mind that the ADOS-2 is not used alone to diagnose ASD; rather the results are incorporated with information gathered through a review of the child's developmental history during the intake interview, behaviors observed during the appointment, and behavior rating scales completed by caregivers and other adult informants.
